Lamination
LAMINATES are physical coatings that are adhered to and protect the surface of your print and can add functionality, depending on your lighting conditions.
Satin Lamination is our most popular laminate and also our favorite. The colors remain bright and the blacks tones stay very dense while being able to view the print from almost any angle without reflection or glare. It will tend to hide the wrinkles in that old poster you bring in to have mounted and laminated. Also, we are always fighting the fact that a lot of our mounting materials have very minor flaws, as most of our materials were not designed specifically for mounting. ie: Gatorfoam was made for the silkscreen industry, Masonite is a smooth building material, Sintra was also designed for the silkscreen industry. As such, our Satin Laminate will hide any of these minor flaws as well as fingerprints.
Luster Laminate is a very smooth laminate that has a sheen to it when viewed from certain angles. Minor material flaws may be visible with this laminate as well as fingerprints.
Matte Laminate tends to make prints look dull and washes out the black tones. This laminate will make your prints “recede” in a display.
Canvas Texture Laminate mimics a canvas texture.
Polyester Gloss Laminate is a high quality high gloss laminate. Depending on where you display your print, you might see a lot of reflection. Our Glossy Lamination will add a degree of brilliance not found in our other laminates, but at the expense of functionality. Certain images do lend themselves to Gloss Lamination, such as cars, jewelry, and fish. The tiniest flaws will be visible with Gloss Lamination as well as “orange peel” with most mounting materials. This laminate shows fingerprints very easily.
5 mil and 10 mil Lexan Laminates are made of polycarbonate and can withstand rough handling when used as an overlamination. They have a frosted finish that tends to hide flaws. They can also be used as a backer for rollable display prints to make them thicker. Polycarbonate does not hold a memory when rolled and will flatten out when unrolled.
